Glass Heart

What was I supposed to do?
Stand aside and watch you weep?
Let my glass heart fall, and shatter on the ground
As you sit,
Tear tracks down your cheeks
Panda eyes;
But you're a sad clown
And you don't make me laugh.
I don't understand it
The way you work
The way your mind twists and turns
I don't understand it.
Once I tried to get into your mind.
I found myself lost
In the middle of a forest of thorns
Scratching me
Bleeding me
Burning me
And I saw you
Wandering unscathed,
Through the darkness
A white unlit candle in your hand.
I pushed my way forward
Trying to get to you
Save you from yourself.
But you turned your body away
And only your eyes and smile lingered
A Cheshire cat of dream wreathes
You flitted through the thorns
Leaving a single footprint,
And a single snowdrop blossomed in the compressed soil.
I fell into those eyes
And awoke again as myself
I cannot understand it
The way your mind works
Will you always be lost in that maze of darkness?
Doomed to wander those dread paths for eternity?
I cannot understand it
The way I can't express myself in words when I speak
And yet I need no words to tell you that I love you.
