Spring Tides by Neil McCall
although she gauged the new moon's pull
she was no mariner
therefore when he came in flood
drowning high-tide roosts
and spuming the choked channels
she cried with delight
but when the neap tide
chose to creep and ebb
leaving wrecks uncovered
crab pools unvisited
she felt her brittleness
and moved inland
so when the moon turned full
and he boomed back in
rising proud and cresting
cloaking the samphire
in a sheen of bubbles
it was on to another shore
