The Compulsion

In the cold of this morning, I watch you smile and shiver
And I think to walk the few steps across the room
Where I would fold you in my arms against the gloom
And enjoy the simplicity of a warm embrace
I feel the weariness
Through your body when you fall into me
A moment, let's not brake this caress
Stay here, forget your pain and trouble
With our fragile forms holding on for comfort
Bodies pressed tightly together
Cheek to cheek, never to abort
There was passion but, for now, see it through
I want the strength of your hug
My collaborative clasp needing you
We clutching at each other
Like we still need the cover
And with one generous shrug
At the air's tight breath
We can ignore the landscape's death
You fall in me in this moment's peace
I can't hold on,
And I fall in you without hope of release
