THE WATER BABY CHAPTER TWO

It was a baby's face looking up at me from the pond. I stared at it for a few minutes, and then, realizing what it was, I plunged my hand into the water to get the baby out, thinking: 'I musn't let it drown.' But alas, when I stuck my hand in, the baby's face disappeared! When the ripples of the water had subsided, the baby's face reappeared. 'It must be a reflection of a face,' I thought. But that was impossible, wasn't it? How could there be a reflection if there was no baby to reflect it? I started to think to myself that I'd better get home, before anything else happens.
I got up and turned the way home was. I'd only taken a few steps when I tripped over. I looked behind me to see what I'd tripped over and saw, nothing! I screamed and ran out of there.
Mum was still in her bedroom when I arrived home. She didn't give me a hint that she knew I was gone when I entered her room. She just turned and smiled at me. "Hello, Sophie." she said.
"Uh, Mum, my name's not Sophie, It's Sara," i replied.
"No, no, you're my baby, Sophie, and my, how you've grown!"
I looked at Mum, startled. 'had she lost her marbles?" I wondered.
Had Sara's mum lost her marbles? Find out in Chapter Three of "The Water Baby."
