The Lady and the Serf

Oh the lady and the serf, they are opposites.
Lives so far apart they never seem to fit.
And life’s getting worse for the lady and the serf
The lady looks at the serf in many different ways
But never sees him through his working day
Thinks only of her shinning knight, and never milk or cow
Dying is a state of mind, she’s got some waiting time.
The manor house is all in lights the banquet’s just begun.
The lady dances vacantly, she’s thinking of her one.
Across the fields a lonely cottage, only child and wife.
They’re waiting for their man to come, who’s stealing for their life.
The dead of night a messenger arrives to break the news
Her knight has fallen, the battle’s lost there’s nothing left to loose
A wife and child in poverty pray to a god to understand
For before the dawn her man was caught, and later he will hang
Oh the lady and the serf, they are opposites.
Lives so far apart they never seem to fit.
And life’s getting worse for the lady and the serf
