I WANT TO SAY I LOVE YOU

I want to say that I love you,
But believe that would be foolish of me;
After the countless ups and downs,
And knowing you’ve treated me nastily.

I’d like to say that I love you,
But I know it is not what you should hear;
You will blow hot and cold again,
When you are sure my feelings are sincere.

I wish to say that I love you,
But I expect that would cause a downfall.
You would no longer keep trying,
And resume being unreasonable.

I used to say that I love you;
Before you saw fit to demoralise.

I want to tell you I love you,
But not as much as I want to be wise.
