Ascalon
He was a bit of a love George
domestically soft as new bread
children could tumble all over him
and I could call him a big dope and he'd take it
just Princess me with his most cunning smile
he even wept a little for the dragon
he saved me from it
wounded it
we put my girdle round its neck
and led it through the town to show them
it was docile as a pet lamb
a tame thing ,gentle
it seemed to think we might help it
and then George had to kill it to make a point
to make everyone convert
become Christians
he teared up afterwards
a Roman Tribune with a heart
His downfall was getting caught up in things
the new religion , wanting to help the weak
always with fresh enthusiasm
riding off to do right, being noble
I said "you can't trust Diocletian" don't go back
even though you've been his man, done his work
been so loyal a friend to him
he is colder than that dragon thing
but he wouldn't listen, man stubborn
chucked me under the chin,whistled
all I could do was polish Ascalon
weep quietly
and let him go
