Quickly

(By the Way, this is very short)

Kage Yasumar quietly walked down the road, where he made a turn into a dark alley. He continued forward at a brisk pace, never once slowing. He knew this area; had for a long time. He had grown up in this area, and knew pretty much what to expect. For a few moments, he walked in silence through the dark, listening for sounds of any kind. He heard a noise, or at least though that he did. Unsure of what was going on, he felt the ground shake beneath him. Frowning, he crouched down into a defensive postion, knowing that something was coming his way.

But what it was was the last thing he had expected. He was a firefighter, and he knew what was coming only moments before it got to him. He could smell the smoke, but it didn't matter, because by the time he realized what it was, it was far too late.

The top of the building on one side of the alley came tumbling down, and he dove to the side, praying to get out of this alive, though doubting that he would. Without warning, the dumpster to his left seemed to be hurtled at him by some unseen force. No, there was a force, and it could be seen, but not by him in his state of mind, for he could not believe what he was currently seeing. The flames, a massive heap of incandescent heat and light, followed the dumpster toward him, and in a heartbeat, he found his right leg crushed by the weight of the dumspter, pinning him to the ground so that he couldn't move. Staring at the flames in disbelief, he screamed as they surrounded him. His scream, however, was cut short. The air around him was quickly taken away, stolen by the fire, by the mass of flames that hurriedly ate away at him. Screaming, he found himself to be out of it before he knew what was going on, and he knew he would not awaken from this mess.

Death. It gets us in the worst of times. It can just sneak up on us when we least expect it.
