O Lucky Man

The crashing waves don’t reach the beach:
no cataract foaming – I tell myself:
“Stand up, be a man, prove you’re alive
if you can”.
But your once sure-footed partner stumbles
in the dance of lovers - his drooping form
betrays a lack of confidence in un-
stiffened pride.
There are other things to do with lovers:
feed each other strawberries - odd-shaped
ones from the mercadillo
in the shade.
Or you can talk about anything while
holding hands or listen to each other
saying of course you really do not mind
in the least.
But if it really doesn’t matter, then yes,
one day, with patience and persistence,
we’ll tip the warmest willow just like
in our youth.

this is lovely and romantic and soft - nice warm poetry Ewan - 'There are other things to do with lovers' - excellent stanza -and it has strawberries in it, odd shaped ones - this is an image just quirky enough - makes me smile - good poem, needs a cherry for a fruit salad i reckon :o)
