A cat in a hat in a sharkskin suit.
He got money, not nickels and dimes.
Ah seen his pitcha in da Nooyawk Times.

He gotta club - he friends with da Count,
wit' Duke and Louis - dat's Satchelmouth.
He got eight cars - but he don't drive'em,
boys onna corner dassent jive 'um.

He Doctor Zoot, he is da man;
he might do it, jes' cuz he can.
Whispr' it low, he don't like dames:
he pay some white boys ta call him names.

Love it, especially the last stanza and the New York accent sounds really authentic when read aloud. Val

I enjoyed it. Reads really easily. The first two stanzas are awesome, and the Doctor Seuss (spelling?) comparison is absolute genius. The only bit I'm not so keen on is the final two lines, that for me are a little cheap. There's no accounting for taste of course. :) Thanks. JM.

Ahh, but then I've always been cheap. Have you thought, historically speaking that is, how powerful someone like Doctor Zoot would have had to have been to have had this particular sexual orientation? I don't imagine anyone in the 'hoods East Coast or West would have to be any less so now, given the content of much rap music, which, it has to be said, is rabidly homophobic. For myself, I don't care which side Doctor Zoot butters his bread, but I suspect his peers might.
