How to Pick a Role Model
Is it the superstar athlete, who scores the winning touchdown for the 20th time, and dances all over the end zone?
Or is it the athlete that steps aside to let the worst player on the team have a chance to play?
Is it the movie star who makes 20 million dollars a movie?
Or is it the movie star that gives his or her free time to charities to help raise funds and awareness for their cause?
Is it the guy driving the new H2 Hummer because he sells drugs?
Or is it the guy in the beat up station wagon driving kids from the neighborhood to a soccer match in the next town?
Is it the 7ft.-6in. giant basketball player Yao Ming from China?
Or is it the 9-year-old Lin Hao walking next to him at the Olympics. Lin Hao who pulled himself out of his school after it collapsed in an earthquake, then went back inside and carried two unconscious students to safety.
I think the choices are obvious.
It is a shame we put so much emphasis on the wrong things.
Lin Hao shows how great the human race can truly be.
He might be small in size, but a giant as a role model.
