Oh, Haven’t we all of us

Oh, Haven’t we all of us
Once in awhile discovered?
In a distant part
Of his hearts fire
Another woman’s ember
Another woman’s lustre
Burning behind his silent eyes
Kindling something, oh, so sheer
On that midnight the ravens
Feathers shone blue with dew
Looking back through...
A golden curtain at you!
Oh, Haven’t we all of us
Once in awhile discovered?
A hardwood ebony heart
Carved cruel and splintered
Because he’s cheated on you!
But still, oh, how his ivory fingers
Can set and melt the frostiest sides of me and you.
And put my soul to music
Oh, the devil he’s just pocket gun excuse
But, boy, how I love the trembling
The warbling flames in his voice
Each time he’s made too cry.
For me and you!
