It was Christmas Eve. The snow was falling. Mummy and Sasha were making hot chocolate.
Daddy and Sebastian were wrapping presents.
‘That’s Mummy’s,’ said Daddy.
‘That’s Sasha’s,’ said Sebastian.
NEE-NAW!
‘What did you say, Daddy?’
NEE-NAW!
‘I didn’t say anything. Did you say something, Sebastian?’
‘No.’
NEE-NAW!
‘Who keeps saying NEE-NAW?’
Sebastian ran to the window. There in the snow he could see a big fire engine waiting, with his friends the firemen.
The firemen waved to Sebastian. Daddy opened the door and they came in.
‘Brr, it’s cold outside,’ said the firemen.
‘How can we help you?’ Daddy asked. ‘Would you like hot chocolate?’
‘There’s no time!’ said the firemen. ‘We’re so busy. One of our firemen is poorly. Can Sebastian come out with us and help for the day?’
‘Of course.’ Daddy went to call Sebastian, but Sebastian was already putting on his boots and his coat and his yellow fire helmet!
Sebastian got into the fire engine. He waved bye-bye to Mummy and Daddy and Sasha.
‘Turn on the siren,’ said the firemen.
Sebastian turned on the siren.
NEE-NAW! NEE-NAW! NEE-NAW!
The fire engine raced through the town.
‘Emergency!’ said the radio. ‘Emergency at the baked bean factory!’
‘Quick!’ said Sebastian.
The fire engine raced to the baked bean factory.
NEE-NAW! NEE-NAW! NEE-NAW!
When they got there, Sebastian and the firemen saw a man in a red suit and black boots, with a red hat and a big white beard.
Who could it be?
‘Who’s that?’ asked the firemen.
‘It’s Santa, silly!’ said Sebastian.
‘Hello,’ said Santa. ‘Can you help me? I crashed my sleigh in the big tank of baked beans and all the presents fell in!’
‘Oh no! What are we going to do?’ said the firemen.
‘Leave it to me!’ said Sebastian.
Sebastian jumped into the baked beans and started swimming around.
BLOB-OP…BLOB-OP…BLOB-OP…
‘Can you see any presents?’ called Santa.
BLOB-OP…BLOB-OP…BLOB-OP…
‘No!’ said Sebastian.
‘What are we going to do?’ said the firemen.
‘Leave it to me!’ said Sebastian.
Sebastian went to the fire engine.
He turned on the hose.
The water went SPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH away into the gutter.
The fire engine was empty. No more water!
Sebastian put the hose in the tank of baked beans.
He turned the tap the other way.
The hose sucked up all the baked beans: SCHLOOOOOMP!
‘My presents!’ said Santa. They were at the bottom of the tank. He quickly cleaned the beans off them and put them in his sleigh.
‘Well done, Sebastian!’ said the firemen.
‘Well done!’ said Santa. ‘Now I have to deliver these presents!’
He got in the sleigh and took off, flying high into the sky. ‘Merry Christmas,’ he boomed. ‘And a happy new year!’
‘Let’s go home, Sebastian,’ said the firemen.
The fire engine raced through the town.
NEE-NAW! NEE-NAW! NEE-NAW!
Sebastian and the firemen went home.
Back at the house, everyone was waiting.
‘Well done Sebastian!’ said Sasha. She gave Sebastian a big hug.
‘Would you like some tea?’ asked Mummy.
‘Yes please!’ said Sebastian.
‘Yes please!’ said the firemen.
Daddy came out of the kitchen.
‘I don’t know what to cook for all these people!’
‘Leave it to me!’ said Sebastian.
Sebastian gave a huge grin.
‘Daddy, make some toast!’ he said.
Daddy made lots of slices of hot buttered toast.
Sebastian went to the fire engine.
Sebastian turned on the hose.
The baked beans went SPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH.
Baked beans for everyone!
