Engulfed

My emotions engulf me
Like Jonah’s whale
Opens their mouth
Swallows me whole
I am in darkness
Devoid of all landmarks
I know not here I move
No Guide have I in this place
Only time is my friend
For the darkness only shows me
More of the same
No light to guide me home
No life giving water
To quench my thirst for a direction
For I am lost in my own psyche
A dark pebble in a bottomless pool
Unknowing
All feeling
Unabated
Words echo through the unseen caverns
Reverberate
Resonate
Retaliate
I stand alone with myself
And am afraid
Where is my guide?
My compass?
This is a new country
For which I do not know the language
Have never been prepared for
The ground quakes below me
The sand shifts
I am unstable
Ungrounded
Unguided
Unknowing
An infant in the throw of birth
Restricted and suffocated in the birth canal
Struck by my own inability to let go
Let God
Let anything be in charge apart from me
But to leave this place
Would mean returning
To a place of sameness
Of never being
A lack of
So I stay
Awaiting a regurgitation
Aggravated by my awakening soul
And my acceptance of the inevitable
Stepping into me
