The Angel's Silence 36

It was Mariya Alekseev. He had passed her when he first entered the hospital.

"Hello, sir. You don't know me. My name is Mariya. I saw you come in last night. You didn't look so good, and I just wanted to see how you were"

She said.

He tried to say something back to her, but his whole body filled with pain. His pain medication was wearing off.

"Are you all right?"

Asked Mariya, who noticed the look of pain dancing across his face.

"Sir... Sir... I'm going to find a doctor."

Said Mariya as she ran out of the room, and searched for a doctor. She ran into one man, who said that he was his Doctor.

He walked back to John's room, and asked Mariya to step out. He injected John with something, whispered,

"You will feel better now."

and left the room.

Rayna was outside of the hospital building, calling her school to explain why she had been absent.

They were completely understanding, which is something she was not expecting. She thought they would fail her for this, especially for not calling them sooner. They pretty much already knew. After all, they were there when Maya collapsed. She was sitting on the ground thinking. Mostly about Maya. She was trying to make sense of everything that had been happening. It was difficult to comprehend just how different her life had become in such a short amount of time.

She was (in a way) being a hypocrite. She believed that no one was ever there for her, but now she was doing the same thing. She hadn't been there for Maya at all. Her own twin sister nearly died, and all she's done is start fights with Maya over the most trivial things. She walked back into the building, and headed straight for Maya's room, when she saw Caelia inside talking to Maya. She didn't even know she was back. She didn't want to interrupt their conversation, so she wandered away...

Mariya was still standing outside of John's closed door, when she realized she had left Antanas unattended. She ran back to his room as fast as she could, expecting to see Elena at his bedside. However, this time she was wrong. Elena was no where to be found. Mariya hoped that she had finally come to her senses, and left her husband alone.

Mariya sat down on a chair that was next to Antanas' bed, and began looking through her handbag. She found a crumbled piece of paper with a telephone number on it. She did not know who this belonged to, and there was no name left on it. She just remembered always having it.

She then took out a family photo from 1997. Her two little twin girls Maya and Rayna looked so happy; she looked just as she always did, only was much more happy than she had ever been and as for Antanas. His face was adorned with a bright smile. Mariya wondered who he was smiling for...

Caelia left Maya's room, and went looking for Rayna. She saw her walk passed Maya's room. She wanted to see how she was holding up.

It wasn't difficult to locate her, though. She usually frequented the same parts of the hospital.

"Rayna, wait up!"

She shouted

Rayna continued walking, completely ignoring her.

"Rayna! Rayna! Rayna, wait up! I know you can hear me.

You're being really immature."

At this point Rayna finally stopped walking.

She turned around and said,

"What do you want, Caelia?"

Caelia gave her an odd look.

"I just wanted to say 'hi' and see how you were doing."

"I'm not the one in the hospital bed. I'm not the one you should be worried about."

Said Rayna

"I do worry about you."

"Why? We barely know each other. You're Maya's friend, not mine."

"Why can't I be your friend, too?"

"I don't want or need anymore friends."

Said Rayna

"Anymore? Do you even have any friends, Rayna? Or have you scared them all away?"

Asked Caelia

"Who you do think you are speaking to me this way?"

Asked an increasingly aggravated Rayna

"I am someone who cares about you, and is not going to sit back and watch you destroy yourself.

You need help, Rayna. Whatever is wrong with you, you need help for it."

Said Caelia

Rayna didn't know how to respond to that, so she said the first and only thing that came to her head.

"I need help? You're the one with all the medication. What do you need all of it for? Or do you need it at all? I think you're just a junkie."

Caelia's face went pale. She paused for about 30 seconds. Rayna thought she wasn't going to answer at all, and started to walk away, when Caelia shouted...

"What the hell were you doing going through my stuff? Maybe you're the one's who's on drugs."

She then walked back south towards Maya's room.

John was in a daze. He didn't know what the doctor has injected him with, but he didn't like it. He couldn't even move a finger. His vision was clouded, and distorted. He closed them for a few moments before he heard a soft woman's voice whispering...
