We are lost yet you are free

Alone now, I walk down lonely street
feeling empty and rather hollow
as a cold wind blows in
a surviving echo of our defeat
A bitter tune that I cannot follow
not if we want to win
Above, a sparrow sits upon a tree
when suddenly a dark cloud crushes out the sun
the bird alights in the freak breeze
flying into a window it didn't see
its tiny neck snaps and its done
forgotten, it lies in the gutter to freeze
Alas, you also were blinded by an ill wind
that brought an end to our dance
it was not your fault
though perhaps I feel that I had sinned
knowing your hearts circumstance
and not forseeing its violent halt
Always, you are not forgotten by me
this tragedy in my heart still burns
year after year I still see
and remember like a wind that returns
this is a story of life and death
that ended me and you
you no longer need to hold your breath
for you have died and I will to
So, the echoes shall remind me of you
but what will remind you of me?
for you are dead and forever free
a spirit without living misery
