Mirror and photograph:
neither can lie but one does
as time shrivels former truth.
A lifetime ago I laughed at old fools
that I have trailed each short day.
Robbed of a child’s wisdom,
I have replaced it with certainties,
born of nameless errors
and have ignored the withering years.
Until reflection’s crooked smile
and cracked brow beckoned
me to sleep..
