Beyond Great Moments

I am threatened with rain
when I desire fire---
my past determined
to consume each precious breath
from moments in time
older than yesterday’s news
as if describing the Temple of Zeus
among those scattered heaps
of rushing winds and rainstorms
assaulting New Orleans.
I am not engulfed by obscure
views as I arise from thermals
life too valued to succumb
to disappointments and old regrets.
Like an eagle my mind desires
its freedom, an unchained spirit:
new goals, recycled visions.
I come alive once again.
