Six Months

Could I hold my breath
and swim six lengths
of the pool of my tears but not drown?

Could I hold my tongue
and walk six days,
not utter your name, that sweet sound?

Could I hold my cool
and bear six weeks
of that burn in my aching heart?

Could I hold my own
and survive six months -
living our lives far apart….?
