I came to call your name

The night sky beckons,
the moon callers yelp and howl
at the emptyness
The cold air bites and snaps at
exposed fingers, trickling down to socked toes
A poet is afoot across the lines of your face,
the outline of your lips
The nostalgia sets in,
a lost light returns to haunt me on a dark night
The seer in me retreats much too quickly
as you walk away much too swiftly
And I am content with this
death of the mind, this numbness
of the soul, this abstract suffering
For I got to remember days that were not the same
I got to feel the weight of this wide giant globe once again thrust upon my shoulders, its phantom ever present even in this light, dulled by the night.
I had been dead all along
until I wanted to live to see a moonlit dawn.
