GRAVITY.
I gaze on the incandescence that surround the dull monotone of my visor. Cold and beautiful, those stars. Little fireflies in the universal black of space. I smile and my breath steams, fogging my view for a time. I take the opportunity to reminisce...
It all started rather innocently – over a game of cards. Wilson took offence at my humble attempt at cheating. Finding six kings in the one deck left him slightly flustered, and short three months wages. Now, I'm the first one to hold up my hands and admit cheating is wrong... but throwing someone out an E-vac chute is just as erroneous. That was my first experience of floating in the void of space.
I thought things were looking up when a passing freighter dragged me in. Sillicoians, they called themselves, pleasant group of individuals, except from the long proboscis that covered most of their dark orange skinned face... that, and the nasty set of claws at the end of their arms.
The first few weeks went well, if quietly, seeing I didn't speak their language; which seemed to consist of sneezes and coughs. I cleared my throat once, and got a dirty look from the one I assumed was their commander. Then, they ran out of food. Something to do with wormhole miscalculation on the navigators part.
I could notice their dark looks, the way their claws clacked as I passed. Life had become... terse. I knew it was time to leave, when I woke to the commander's proboscis probing my face one morning. This time I took the E-vac chute voluntarily.
Once again, I floated among the stars, a lonely island in the sea of black. Fortune favoured me once more. A dilapidated cruiser slowed alongside my small form, and a tether snaked out, its multiple coils reflecting off a distant sun.
Inside I'm greeted by the most voluptuous, most stunning group of Amazons. Not known for their regard for the male of the species, yet these took pity on my soul. Things were looking up.
Ah, my visor has cleared again. Whoops! I've drifted quite near one of the stars. It's incredible how something that looks so stunning from a distance, can look so ordinary up close... just a ball of dust and rock, really. I'm caught... it's got me in its grip. Ice breaks from the arm of my suit, and starts to race me towards the surface. It turns to rain, then vapour as it hits the atmosphere.
I find myself speeding up, the front of the suit compresses to the contours of my body; my ears pop. The star's name is Q342... I think? If you're passing, you might see a tiny discolouration on the equator... that will be me. You can wave if you want, I won't notice, but it's the thought that counts.
Oh! Why am I floating in space again? Seems the Amazons have a thing about leaving the toilet seat up. GOOOODBYYYYEEEEE.
The end.
