POWER FAILURE
P K Routray
The topic may look strange to the readers from countries of opulence,
The people there will have novel experience if they get one such occurrence.
For them to muse and amuse, here runs our experience,
which, when the earth runs short of resources, their great grand children may face.
But as the flexibility and the adaptability are god gifted characters,
When forced by adversity the man manages to bear with these calibers.
When cyclone comes, the hefty banyan trees break,
but because of humility and flexibility the minute grasses, the tornado cannot shake.
In the hot and humid summer when life becomes unbearable,
We find no or low quality electricity making living wretched and miserable.
When man intently longs for artificial cooling and forced air,
the electricity eludes blaming the coal and the water which have become scarce and rare.
The engineers raise their hands;
The managers bang their heads,
The politicians and bureaucrats flee from the scene out of shame and fear,
on summer vacation to summer resorts with their near and dear.
In the night when illumination is essential and you are in its dire need,
all on a sudden the electricity supply gets disrupted from its source the grid.
In addition, load shedding is resorted to due to forced outage,
as supply demand do not match the common public suffer worst owing to the shortage.
They have no alternative but get adjusted to live without electricity,
With thatched roof, no night life they go back to an era before fifty.
Imagine no activity after darkness interrupted and intermittent power in heat and humidity,
life must be far better in primitive days in the forest, than the life adjusted to modern amenity.
You walk up in tall building or get stuck up in the lift,
blessed ones burn costly kerosene and diesel for electricity for such acts to shift.
The village life is slightly smoother than the city life,
in the city, with concrete structures and least greenery, the dwellers struggle and strife.
In the school and colleges students and teachers do suffer,
you may tell this as an additional teaching for the future.
We invite you to come and experience “what is a power failure’,
and“How to live with it” as a daily routine to introspect yourself with pleasure.
Hey Readers! this poem has a hidden agendas also to teach,
to tell you to be happy and thank God for whatever is there within your reach.
Also natural resources are limited; hence our life style needs contemplation,
to bring equality leading to peace in the world for present and future the genius brains in all walks of life must reflect upon.
