About the nature of Cuckoo's....
"So in this story there are lots of loose ends," I said to Phyliss much later on, "I kno, it must be frustrating watching me take two positions in order to explain it all,. and to name that other part of me ... Kitty was absurd."
"She's self absorbed now? I suppose?" she asked hesitantly. "Do you think you are doing the right thing ending the story? I mean to tell it all?"
"I don't know," I said honestly, "They say there are have added things to our water supply for years, enought to kill off all my familys over time. So what have they left me... only the right to tell all as I know it..."
"Are you scared?"
"A little, only, It's a relief to say it all aloud. Perhaps a real time separation from all these enchroaching people. They've even brought along a young woman with hair done like one of the royals. Who do they want to replace this time? They are all so greedy. Taught to plot and scheme since their earliest days...."
"What was this last will of Losther about?"
"Meant to restore to me, my real mother's estates." I said quietly, "I think... it's so hard to remember. You know I would have had to have proof, and the foster parents - the cruel ones made sure they kept my original birth certificate and passport etc...etc...."
"How did you go to school without that?"
"My foster father went out and got me one. When we returned from Malta." I said.
"Would they have been able to take your inheritance with those?" she asked me.
"They had a daughter who was willing to change her name to my second name and use my last name. It was a matter of changing letter then. She was horrible to me. I was glad to leave them.

"Do you think he would have done that? Given your inheritance to her?"
"He might have by mistake," I said refletively, thinking hard about the past. It was so long ago. "They might have been working together, the family before they came into riches, took in another child. They wanted someone to represent their house who was big and strong. That others would respect. He was quite sweet when he first came. He was so apologetic, we had a hundred sorry's every day. We both, (Robert & I) said it was okay and we liked him."
"Who was Robert?"
"Robert, I think was the original son. A gentle boy, quite small and when huge was scared by the servants came into hold my hand. In that room where I was tied down. His parents were nice enough and always away on trips abroad. They were important."
"What happened to Robert?"
"Eventually his family came to power: and I saw both the boys again in S........ough, the cuckoo was horrible to me, sneering, "who's not so clever now...." Hard to be so clever once you are dropped on your head from an upstairs window. Robert was very quiet then, he was always so, he had a passion for watching the birds, and he would stand and tell me about the colours in the feathers for ages. He was upset that I couldn't see them. Robert found his way into my class at school for a short while in Sca....ough. I think he'd then been adopted out..."
"Do you know what happened to him?"
"He changed his name and married the princess."
"Is that a scam?"
"Your choice..."
"The other one? How do you feel about him now?"
I said carefully, "I saw him last year all grown up, he was never the same as the embarrassed boy who first came to us after he went to school. It was as if he was double whammmeyed by his experiences, and totally brutalized. Yet, this time - I could find some fellow feeling, I didn't hate or fear him. I found I rather liked him."
Phyliss replied thoughtfully, "A learning experience then. How did he appear to feel about you?"
"He seemed inclined to anger. Except now because of Mr Ee's intentions, he has perhaps cause too - Mr Ee was so upset over their treatment of me as a child, years ago he visited Losther and made them change the will to let me have a chance of inheritance. they should have given me my mother's estates years back (if my memory tells me right) perhaps because this is all a huge plot, the Ees(e's) took it instead, there was Janet.... and her mother too. The older boy was to hand me Losther at a certain age, and perhaps they want to keep it in the family. The servants said at the tme that he was the son of the Butler really, but the Losther's didn't know."
"Good grief....!"
"I would be very surprised to get anything..."
"I'd be shocked. So orignally it was a servants plot. A kind of mutiny."
"Exactly, Replacement by a family. Inheritance by the same family. A specially brought up family, who believe in brutalisation, and evil. The older boy was half way there, only I feel now he's pulled back from the brink. it's a pity the right boy didn't or couldn't inherit, he possibly feared for his life. Yet there are now his direct descendants."
"Why don't you feel any emotions re that part of England?"
"You have to remember I was his cousin. In my own way I still care about Robert, in the nicest possible way, I think he's still in love with his ex-wife."

When I was a small child at the Ee's home in S.....ough, I decided I wanted to watch the investiture of Prince Charles on the telly. Surprisingly Mrs; Ee's was amenable. Her older daughter came in to watch it too. She sat on the sofa facing the box and I sat on the single arm chair. I had one finger in my mouth. I felt very small and afraid. The giants sat outside and waited nervously. The world was jelly.
The older girl said, "Why do you want to watch this?"
"Just want to see how much he's changed..." I muttered into the chair. I felt embarrassed, caught in a notlie that would have been branded as one, and had me at the mercy of Mrs. EE.
It began to rain a little.
We watched the pomp and ceremony, enjoyed the day's action. Suddenly when Prince Charles was given the Duchy, tears flooded my eyes, I couldn't see. Outside the giants stirred, they too were crying, they said to me, "We will never leave you, we will be with you always. wherever you wander - we'll be there."
And they do: and in the nature of giants: there are more now, than there was once.

Mrs Ee came in, and banished her oldest from the room and cracked me hard accross my head, "Stop snivelling," she said, "How dare you think they would even remember you..."
