Delilah heard the cat meowing incessantly and finally rose to investigate despite the late hour. Treading ungracefully through her apartment, she rubbed her eyes and nose, trying to rouse herself out of her torpor. As she entered the kitchen, she saw the cat peering and meowing maliciously at a hole. The hole was a singularity that resembled the impact of a fist into a wall made of air. Beyond, Delilah could see only a tarry darkness whose chill permeated her skin from six feet away.
Then an icily ebony tentacle shot through the hole, causing Delilah to expel the air she had been holding in fear and lack of understanding. It lashed out and coiled its oily appendage around the cat’s neck. Delilah’s hand flew to her mouth as the tentacle went into her cat’s ear and then the cat’s entire eyes went a sudden, light-sucking black. Delilah, petrified to tears, watched as her cat leapt onto her chest, sinking its claws into her skin and breaking her paralysis. She instinctively grabbed at the cat to push him off, but the cat was burning with a blistering cold that made her skin singe and smoke. As she opened her mouth to scream, the cat sunk its teeth into her neck and an inky smoke tendril escaped the possessed feline and inundated her body. She could not move and wanted desperately to breathe, and felt a bitter chill moving through every vein of her body before the alien intelligence broke into her cerebral cortex. She saw dark, ancient worlds filled with cold, foreign architecture that made what was left of her skin crawl with a rising nausea. Her consciousness plummeted back into her mind as the terrible sound of “YOG-SOTTHOTH” was ripped out of Delilah’s suspended body a moment before the entire scene was sucked into the hole and vanished with a whisper of a sucking wind.
