A promised messenger to speak, prepare
the way before the coming King,
a calling voice, out in the wilderness,
‘Get ready, turn to him,
bear fruit that show repentance,
to welcome his appearance.’

This part often forgotten. John must have had such a hard life. And his mother

Yes, though she was delighted to be with child, as she and her husband had so longed and prayed for a child, and especially as they knew he was to be the one to prepare the people for the Messiah. And of course he was killed by Herod at the whim of his wife, becuase John had said Herod shouldn't have taken his brother's wife for himself. (Matthew chapter 14)
