Once upon a nightingale
Sweetness and light
My song was hers forever
And for long did I yearn
To touch her emotions so
The man she chose over me
Was cruel, he laughed at grace
She couldn’t see beyond
His charming smile
And so my soul frustrated
But then again I met once more
My soft gay abandoned lass
Her hair as gossamer
greyly encircling disappointment
And as I gazed into those lovelorn eyes
To stretch past the ice of wasted years
I saw my sweet Xanthippe
