Parkinson's Awareness Week - My fourth poem
Hope!
Hope is what sees us through our darkest times,
As we shuffle about this globe of ours called Earth,
And mourn for that, which once belonged to us,
As in desperation we look to you, the scientists,
For our salvation from these insults to God’s work.
.
Diseases cannot continue to subvert God’s purpose.
If our God is benevolent then these are not of his making,
So must we look to Lucifer, the devil, or to ourselves?
Who or what brought about these dreadful pestilences,
That rob us all of the sweet music of a pain free life?
These hateful afflictions destroy what was gifted to us
In the form of life and I for one cannot believe
That these physical horrors were truly meant for us,
If the God we worship is a God without malice
As I, and whole continents of people, believe he is.
There would be no point in punishing us
In a way where we cannot be certain of his hand,
I feel sure He would want us to know of His wrath
If we have failed Him in some dark and dreadful way.
But in the meantime scientists will argue and rage on,
About the use of stem cells and the like that offer hope.
To the afflicted. But ethical questions must still be asked,
And answered, before we can be rid of these diseases,
But I pray the shortest passage of time gives way to hope.
Opposing factions must move towards each other,
If not, then that which rings out is loud and clear;
Surely a cruel message from hated Lucifer himself,
Who waits patient at the entrance to a painful Hell…
Abandon all hope those who enter here!
