RAVAGES OF TIME

your moments, fat with rapture
how momentously they rose
your hands with a mechanic's grace
until they cramped and froze
.
it was early afternoon
when you were struck by midnight's chime
the angels saved your body
from the ravages of time
.
your poem was like a river
running deep but also swift
but your river met an ocean
that absorbed it in its drift
.
the ink became invisible
a short but lovely rhyme
the angels saved your body
from the ravages of time
.
the mountain rose above you
summit hidden by a shroud
and you found yourself engulfed
until you wore it like a shroud
.
your life was wide but rather short
an interrupted climb
the angels saved your body
from the ravages of time
.
you always drew companions
your attraction, polar strong
with many different voices
joining in to sing your song
.
you left the world here, weeping
as you reached a realm, sublime
the angels saved your body
from the ravages of time
.
you'll never know the coldness
that will settle in the bones
the dimming of the senses
and the weary ancient moans
.
your soul still in its infancy
your flesh still in its prime
the angels saved your body
from the ravages of time
