Cherish I, Cry I
P K Routray
To fly across and all over the globe
to dine and dance for joy as only job
in luxury hotels with famous stars
drinking rare whiskies in push bars
spend I may whatever they cost
but enjoy my life I must.
Cherish I
with world richest I must vie.
Die millions out of hunger,
live in open air without shelter,
diseased poor in zillion without medicine
wretched many struck by tsunami and famine.
Cry I
with pitch loud and high.
To fill the closet with cloths of varied design,
to live in a mansion with climate conditioning machine
Cherish I
every gadget I must buy.
Die people because of pollution in land, water and air,
energy shortage will doom human future, save may only prayer.
Clothless many live naked, suffer in chilly winter
roofless many live in slums with condition bitter
Cry I
with rivers of tears in eye.
For chocolate, ice-cream, artificially flavored food and tasty drinks
high salaried jobs, high society, late night parties with funny jinx,
to enjoy music, picture and games round the clock world over
with everything automatically done and nothing will need physical labor
television, net, computer, communication equipments ,electronic
to get the full benefit of the advantage of machines of advance technique
Cherish I
to live longer with spirit high.
To shape the body and to shed extra weight
to look smart and avoid fat which I hate
to avoid diabetes, blood pressure, heart stroke
avoid I must junk food, fatty food and must not smoke
to live happier, to live healthier spare, I must time for me
more time I should spend with family to nurture own family tree.
Cry I
to be wise I try.
Though cherish I for evils so on, so forth
But cry I for values of human worth.
