Phailin
P k Routray
A super cyclone, half the size of India
gaining momentum
just in turbulent sea
three hundred kilometer away
is proceeding towards me.
The Goddess Durga, our mighty deity
Is on her worship altar
one hundred meter away
Killing a demon
a mother’s power I see.
In 1999 the super cyclone
I was the witness of live scene.
Coconut trees touching ground
massacres all-around
but grasses happily dancing
my eyes have seen.
The loss was ten thousand lives
innumerable trees, birds and animals
loss of 4.5 billion dollars
Yet life has to come back
trees to raise their heads
even after fourteen years
Phailin, you are coming with
Still worse form
frowns to mutilate us again
the million poors,
take pity and have mercy
I bow at you with trembling fears
I Pray mother
Who comes to bless us
this season and these days
We appeal you
Please spare us from the woes
by diverting ways.
Rains harbingering Phailin’s arrival
is knocking all around my closed door.
Save us, cool Phailine
We are your children. Hey Mother!
