A Walk

Come take a walk with me
A walk into my mind
Down twisting winding corridors
Of things I've left behind.
Oh look! there's a toy
Battered and bruised with age
See how in the blink of an eye
It slowly fades.
Oh look, there's your face
freshly preserved and unchanged
I haven't seen you for a while
Are things still the same?
Oh look... There's your grave
Cold and shiny new
Still holding on
To the very essence of you.
Oh look... Here's my high school
Memories long lost and dead
Funny how it all still lingers
In my head.
Oh look....
Here's the door I like to keep barred
Of a time I wish to forget
Where the better half of me is scarred.
Oh look! Here's the end of the line
There's nothing more to dwell
You can try to get it out of me
But I swear I'll never tell.
So you've taken a walk with me
A walk into my mind
Down twisting winding corridors
Of things I've no longer left behind.
Don't try to return there
There's nothing more for you
Just leave me to my memories
That's all that you can do.
