Give and Believe
P K Routray
Lost in desert,
dying of thirst
to his surprise a man could find
an abandoned house, a hand pump behind.
For a glass of water
he pushed and pulled its lever.
Pump was dry hence failed to deliver,
frustration in the man loomed larger.
Prayed he the Almighty with unflinching faith
to save him from the certain torturous death.
Found he, on sudden a small jug with closed cover
at top tied on it a scribbled paper
directing to use the jug of water to prime the pump
before operating the lever to get the water from the sump.
“Drink you water, thirst you quench,
to get cooled, in water you may drench,
again in the jug fill the water
and put on it the scribbled paper.”
The pump looked inoperative and out of order
the man had the doubt, whether the pump could ever deliver?.
put if he would the water expecting pump to pump out water
the water in hand would vanish and with no water his life would wither.
Dilemma as to whether to drink the water
or to abide the instruction on the paper
forced him to ponder and to pray for a way out.
Followed he finally the instruction as his inner voice he could not flout.
To his utter delight the pump could deliver water
He drank water far more than the contents in the jug,.
got fresh lease of life, water serving as his life saving drug.
To the paper he added his lesson to share which has taken him aback.
“You have to give it all away before you can get anything back."

Very good! Reminded me of the widow of Zarephath first making Elijah a small cake from her last bit of flour, trusting the flour would not be used up, as God had promised (1 Kings 17:7-16). Rhiannon
