A Ghost and Me
P K Routray
To curb my childhood mischief
I was made to have a belief
of ghosts, ghouls and spirits
operating within their defined boundary limits.
Invisible they are in the sun light
wicked they become in the darkness of the night.
Unsatisfied souls they are for their mortal reasons,
after death they frantically search for the moments to retaliate the feelings.
Thus the picture was engraved in heart of my hearts with fear
even at this ripe age at some lonely places at odd hours to visit I never dare.
Particularly our village cremation ground and the environment there
the memory of the elders’ stories still me do scare.
Listen I still from reliable persons known to have never told a lie
coming across such figures at haunted places when at lonely hours they passed by.
Four of my batch mates had seen a ghostly figure moving along the street
sharing the same room when at three am they got up to get their lessons complete.
It was an authentic source which panicked us during our youth
but till date I myself have never seen a ghost to tell you the its truth.
Readers may react to highlight any true ghost story experienced by them
or to advise me as to whether to my dear Granny protecting a frightened child within her sari I shall at this age blame.
