Oh Mother!
P K Routray
While in your womb I had given you many a kick
as you knew that was then my only communicational trick
I wanted perhaps to convey you my gratitude in primitive way.
It may be my stroke of love, mother that was my gratitude to you now I say.
I cried when I saw the light on the earth relieving you of the pain.
I cried not to get separated from you, that attachment was my gratitude to you then.
I sucked your milk with beastly passion to survive and grow to see a smile on your face.
I do not remember what I thought; perhaps your smile by my act was my gratitude then I did place.
Your lap was the safest place for me to seek protection when in threat
as I was sure of you being stronger than the strongest and for me you were great.
When I was ignorant, whatever I was doing is to express my gratitude to you.
Tell mother, whether you agree to it or not, tell from heart, you’re feeling true.
After being wise I forget my wisdom I remain as child to you
Hence behave like a child torturing you being sure all my acts you will take as my gratitude too.
Oh Mother! Please tell the earth and Heaven above from your heart bottom,
Do you require any gratitude in any better form from your novice daughter or son?
