Cherry

Bin my pen and paper...
go outside...sick and tired
of trying to write.  Water
in the fields lies deep
in brown-frowning furrows
where two lapwings sit –
contemplate
the nature of things.
 
Trenchant spikes
of bulrush stand tall
in a pond overflowing
its banks . A certain foreboding
pervades, almost as if 
Mother Nature hides
an imminent tirade
that, doubtless,
will end in tears
 
and bruised, June clouds
mirror my mood – two
shades darker, the ambergris 
of an errant eucalyptus, 
and the stubborn umber 
of a buckthorn.
 
Something stirs, 
something breathes, 
and trembling thighs
of a white-barked
silver-birch kiss desire
from a fractious sky –
court a redolent wind.
 
Likewise, the lapwings
rise...sunset on their wings –
ride the splendid spine 
of a thought-train,
regardless of rhythm 
or rhyme; all is hushed
save the susurrus 
of trees. Poetry 
in deed.

I know I shouldn't pick just this bit out, but I adored it, so I did. If this is you not writing poetry because it's out there to see, Lord help us when you try.

Tina,

Your eyes do see nature at its best  and then you let us lesser mortals  share your view.  Wonderful words creating wonderful images.  Now then,  these words, words like 'susurrus' and another, I can't remember how to spell... won't be a mo...don't wait up!  'Discombobulated.'  I've never been discombobulated in my life.

I tried to post this last night but somehow it became discombobulated.and I lost it.

Great words but what the hell do they mean?  I could look in a dictionary, but I think I will like your definition  better.

As to susurrous, or indeed, susurrus, it simply means the nature of a whisper, and discombobulated - to upset, disturb, or disconcert. So now you knowwink and I must away to the kitchen, too, or my husband will become more than discombobulated if I don't dish up his dinner forthwith, or even sooner than thatlaugh
