1.
I bless each bright green blade of grass
and leaf of jade upon the trees
and when it whispers gently past;
I bless the soft, warm Summer breeze.
2.
I bless each bird that brightly sings;
each thrush and blackbird, wren and lark;
their songs give my soul golden wings
to fly; to soar above the dark.
Chorus:
I bless the splendorous
Summer days;
bright days of peace and joy.
When Summer comes, I feel, always,
like I’m a little boy.
I feel the Spirit of my youth;
returning like a swift
that flies home to familiar roofs.
That’s Summer’s golden gift.
3.
I bless the light the Sun bestows
on all with its warm gentle kiss
and every flower; each blooming rose
whose beauty lifts my heart to bliss.
4.
I even bless the humble bees
that busily, round flowers, buzz;
the ladybird upon my knee
though I’m not sure quite what she does.
Chorus:
I bless the splendorous
Summer days;
bright days of peace and joy.
When Summer comes, I feel, always,
like I’m a little boy.
I feel the Spirit of my youth;
returning like a swift
that flies home to familiar roofs.
That’s Summer’s golden gift.
