I'm sorry

A tree, diseased I stand, needing fertiliser
To feed roots in this waste land of death
The sun dips beneath the roofs and the air
Turns cold like earth, I feel cold.
A wolf’s face I wear like a coat and bleed you dry
Of thoughts to answer with
A stranded blue sky... light hits my wondering eye
I feel life is passing me by and I can’t stop its momentum
Like a solitary bee struggling to survive clawing its way
Along a slatted garden fence in winter its wings crystalline,
Opaque vieny in the dying light
Slabs in the court yard hide the dying earth
Everything needs light to grow
Your light for me grows dim
My frame is frail like my shivering hands
As they cup the flickering flame
From the lit ivory candle stick
I use to light my chain smoked cigarettes
Fear uses every trick to keep me numb
And completes my hateful sentences
The moon starts to show through broken clouds
On one of those bright dual aspect days
And I only know its day because your texts tell me, “I missed you.”
My heart beats again and I don’t need to explain as words are not enough
We just know we are friends again
As the sun reflects off the window behind me
And the moon strengthens its shape.
I spoke with a devilish tongue
With a head confused containing the pain
Of my selfish heart,
But you still forgave
As you opened the door for utterance once more
Not knowing I didn’t need philosophies or the wisdom to understand
But just to say the hardest words in the world to say
With a pure heart…"I'm sorry."

Some pleasing imagery here,
Some pleasing imagery here, PD. Especially liked:-
'Like a single bee struggling to survive clawing its way
Along a slatted garden fence in winter its wings crystalline,'
and:-
'A wolf’s face I wear like a coat and bleed you dry
Of thoughts to answer with'
Enjoyed, very much.
