i'd rather have friends, taciturn
with mouths all tightly zipped
than noisy interlopers
who would circumvent my script
.
these would be sons-of-shakespeare
wring the joy right from my dreams
an orchestra of crickets
i'm pinocchio, it seems
.
a busy body speaks their mind
then minds your business, too
they'll jump to wild conclusions
tell you what you're bound to do
.
their concepts can't hold water
yet like teapots, they will spout
an orchestra of crickets
i'm pinocchio, no doubt
.
how odd to have a visitor
who when they pay a call
will rearrange your furniture
ensuring you will fall
.
they make the bed you lie in
till they've made an muddled mess
an orchestra of crickets
i'm pinocchio, i guess

Brought to mind 'Everyone
Brought to mind 'Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry' James 1:19, and I remember someone telling kids to 'engage brain before using tongue' - tongues can seem hinged in the middle, and I suppose minds sometimes seem so sure they know what's best for everyone else. Good rhymes and rhythms as usual. I was slow getting the reference to Pinocchio, but then I checked on the film and realised about Jiminy Cricket's role, so you seem surrounded by a whole load of Jiminy Crickets! Rhiannon

Tight rhymes and not a word wasted. A highly enjoyable poem.
