Culture fiction is a non-fantasy type of fiction set in an imagined culture.
It is distinguised from fantasy fiction by the absence of magic and from speculative fiction in that its focus is upon culture rather than science or technology.
The focus of culture fiction is the customs, fashions, language/slang, religion, art and other aspects of a fictional culture.
The fictional culture could be a fictional national culture; a fictional historical period; a fictional religion; a fictional fashion; a fictional gender or persuasion; a fictional music, art, dance, literature etcetera; a fictional traveller community; a fictional tradition essentially anything that could be called a culture.
Culture fiction may also be about a particular cultural artifact; for example a fictional song or painting; piece of furniture; hairstyle; symbol; consumer product or sport but the cultural artifact must be the product of a fictional culture for example a story about a fictional popular song is only Culture fiction if the popular song is of a fictional music style or the product of a fictional youth movement or fashion/era etcetera
