Faces and Thoughts: The Ones I Want You To See
We all have a face that we let the rest of the world see. For some it is a carefully crafted image, air-brushed to perfection.
For others it is a persona, one that is prepared and presented to the outside as being them. If we cannot create an image, we offer a blank sheet instead. Caring not what people write on it. Just so long as they cannot see inside.
I have pain that I cannot deal with nor understand. So I shut it away or simply explain it as something it is not, so I can file it as ‘dealt with’. I get angry when people try to pretend that they know about the human mind.
Hell! I am living this life and it’s taken me sixty years to even begin to reason with my thoughts. All power to the psychologists and philosophers who tell me all about it. We are only just discovering things about this chemical computer we call a brain. So how the deuce can we tell others what they are thinking?
The problem with language and conscious thought is that it is a translation. And we all know the problems with translating… it is an approximation at best. I write and read poetry. The best way of describing what I strive for is that the reader (me if written by someone else) gains an experience from it.
The best thoughts and feelings for me are the ones that never give birth to words. We have been trying to put sunrises, sunsets, cascades of beauty into words since script was first invented, but truthfully, have we really, I mean REALLY succeeded ?
I suppose I’m contradicting myself by using words, but all I want to do is ask the reader to open their minds and take a walk in that spiritual garden that is thought. Not words, but feelings, emotions and images. Embrace what we really do not understand. It is our strength and our solace.
