To my best friend

 
You often know 
what's on my mind. 
Sometimes...
I'm being ridiculous, 
I know,
but you don't care - 
because most of the time 
I'm reasonable and pretty fair. 
You excuse the times 
I'm not though,  
when I break down and fall 
to pieces or send you
incoherent, drunken emails - 
you are there,
picking up the broken shards,
making me laugh 
when all that's left to do is cry. 
You never wonder why 
I said what I did 
because you know 
my intentions are good, 
that I try my best,
understand I get things wrong. 
No judgment, no condemnation 
at my mistakes 
just a loving hand 
keeping me on track.  
You do all this for me 
without a thought, 
just as I do the same for you...
offer my love 
without hesitation 
and hold nothing back,
not out of any debt
but because I want to.
You get my jokes,
you like my quirks,
you think I look lovely 
when I clearly don't
and I'm pretty sure 
that it wouldn't bother you 
to hear me fart - though
I'll be honest and say
I probably won't.
You might be 
just down the road 
or miles away and
though sometimes 
we have to part,
this doesn't matter 
we'll always be close - 
linked together,
forever,
heart to heart.
