Poetry, what are you?

Are you a tree that all poets try to climb?

Tall and strong with many published branches

With each poet striving hard to take a bough

 Fruit that takes time to ripen each at a different pace

With seeds that grow as poets plant their thoughts

This tree that spawned so many great and new

Is there for all to let their talents grow

To be able to put down your thoughts in a poem, is sometimes the best tonic in the world.

Thank you so much for your comment.

You are exactly right in your comment it is about the written word. Even the great writers of the past had to start somewhere. I am constantly asking myself is what I have written good enough and it's through feedback like yours, us beginners gain confidence to express ourselves.
