Jane got up to her feet and moved towards the next stairs walking awkwardly, it was not the ideal but another fall to the ground could be her demise, so she dared not go any faster for now -I might end up inviting Rick to dance- she thought while looking back at the agony of the blue man. The screams frightened her but she could not help but smile, whatever hell he was suffering he certainly deserved it.
CREEEEEEEEEEEEESH!…
The sound came up again, fusing strangely with the fading screams of the blue man and creating an earie echo around the room just as Jane began to climb the last staircase. -How many of these people are? – she asked herself grinding her teeth. It made no difference, soon none of them would matter. The screams had died out by the time she reached the twentieth, she pulled the gun and the master key for the floor from her waist pouch and rushed ahead. Unsurprisingly the two blue men she had left behind blocked by the trap appeared shortly after, running up the stairs at full speed.
She kept going, in the last feet nothing mattered; not all the sweat, not the dried blood, not the cramps in her legs, not her fear, not her ruined arm, not her headaches and not the two murderers running behind her with their shining blades in hand, the only thing she cared about was the door. She reached it with the men still halfway through the corridor, Jane used her left hand to put the keys in the door lock and bit her lip hard to endure the pain of using the gun with her right.
BAWMM BAWMM BAWMM – She shot blindly, looking only at the door lock, -Two more- The men muttered something to each other in a warning tone but only one of them froze in hesitation, resuming his chase half a second later when he saw his partner pressing ahead. The door finally gave in and Jane threw herself inside the room, only to get seized by the arm when she tried to close it behind her. She knew immediately that she would not be able to overpower both of them trying to close the door. So she shot him, once in the wrist to free herself and once in the head to finish him off, but the movement of the man in pain from the first shot made her second miss and only scratch his masked cheek, therefore Jane kicked him with the last drop of her strength into the second man and closed and locked the door in front of them.
