Solitude

When all alone and in retreat

I sit so quiet whilst on this seat

My mind at rest as I sit and think

Knowing that I am on the brink

I know my mind it can converse

As I'm all wrapped up in a new verse

From new ideas I enrich my mind

My knowledge grows as I'm defined

Each action as my mind detects

On each failure in my life reflects

My mind stands still as I sit and ponder

On words I'll write as my mind will wander

When all alone I can then allude

Why I accept and like this solitude

A lovely meditation.  You convey that moment of stillness, of both reflection and anticipation.  I have no idea why, but I got a vivid picture of someone on an early morning walk through autumnal woods, a chill in the air, pausing to take stock.  The last line is particularly effective.  Really enjoyed reading this.

Thank you airyfairy for your kind comments. I think this will be my last submission for some time as I take stock of how I write and why I write. My mind is not in the best of places as I have placed my poetry on abctales for the past few weeks. I have the feeling that it is not good enough.

Thank you "admin" for allowing me to post over the past few months and I hope abctales carries on to be as successful as it is.

My mother used to quote (A A Milne, I think) 'Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits …'

I think she appreciated a time for one's mind to just 'catch up' and be still, and the benefit as well of time for unhurried meditattion, looking, and thinking. Rhiannon

Edward, I hope you won't be away for too long.  It's always a pleasure to read your work.  I know that we all go through times when we question what we're doing.  Sometimes, as you say, we need to take stock.  Looking forward to reading more when you do post again.

This is a poem I can very much relate to at the moment. You've touched on those feelings that I'm going through myself. I think as poets and writers we always question how we're feeling, like the art of putting into words just quite what it all means.

I like the way you've written this Edward and I also look forward to reading more of your work which I can always connect with.

Your poems and comments have been quite refreshing, Edward, and appreciated. I hope you are not bothered at varying reception as the readers on ABC varies a lot in number and field of interest. I also hope and pray that you know refreshment in all your meditations and family life and prayer and fellowship with God, whether you are posting or not! Rhiannon

Thank you Rhiannon, Jenny and airyfairy for your kind words it has been particularly hard for me these past few weeks. As I have written my mind is not in the best of places at the moment and I need time to myself for a while.
