The Animal Race

As I was walking down the road
I saw a lorry driving toad;
a bicycle rode by a duck
and then a dog driving a truck.

 

I saw a digger driving crab,
a rabbit in a taxi cab;
a fox in a red racing car
and then I thought, "Wow, thats bizarre".

 

But then after waiting a while,
a roller skating crocodile
came whizzing past and, after that,
a motorcycle riding cat.

 

And if that was not odd enough
then I saw lots of other stuff
like a rhino riding a train
and a giraffe flying a plane.

 

I saw a bear and a baboon
flying in a hot air balloon;
I saw a puppy in a pram
and a ram riding on a tram.

 

I saw a goat upon a boat
and then a scooter riding stoat;
an elephant driving a bus
and helicopter octopus.

 

A lion in a limousine
and a shark in a submarine;
a raccoon in a rubber raft
and hedgehog in a hovercraft

 

"I must be dreaming this" I said
but then a blimp flew overhead
piloted by a peg legged bat
who said, "Its not as strange as that".

 

"Its just a big race", he explained,
"Where beasts in boats and cars and planes;
and vehicles of all shapes and sizes
race coast to coast to win big prizes".

 

And so I wished that bat good luck
and all the animals in trucks;
boats, cars, baloons and steam engines
"And may", I said, "The best beast win".
