Micromys minutus

Bright bundle of gingery fur
climbing, clambering dextrously
up and down and through the tall grass and reed stalks –
long, almost hairless tail curling, holding, steadying,
large shiny round black eyes, darting glances,
finds a spot to build a nest,
weaving grass around itself to make
a cosy hollow ball bound to thin grass poles
– harvest mouse,
lighter than a twopence piece.

Hi rhiannon,
Hi rhiannon,
it's amazing how light these little creatures are and just how quick they can be.
Love your nature descriptions of the little harvest mouse. A special little poem indeed.
Jenny.
