THE OTHER WOMAN

THE OTHER WOMAN
From the poisoned chalice
She drinks her wine
Philimidia the callous woman
Poured the powder
In the chalice
With malice on her wicked face
She watched it dissolve
And became atoms: invisible
indestructible
Of The red wine.
Red: the fair queen's
Favoured hue!
In wine and in complexion
Whether the roses
Or the king she adored
The King's mistress had other designs:
Her ambitions she wants to satisfy!
Divorce the queen!
She ordered the king
The King wouldn't hear
Her nonsensical words.
This was a king of impeccable
Practice of Roman catholic religion;
His morals, corrupt
So the liberals, he slew
Many damsels frequented
His feathered bed.
Often!
The Queen, she knew.
Her King was only mortal
And a man, she excused.
The wicked Philimidia had her designs
On the king and the crown.
So she poured the powder
In the chalice
And offered it to the fair
Queen smiling a serpent's smile.
Philimidia, the Queen could
Not read for she was a sister
Born two minutes after.
