[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
His nature different to our own,
all-knowing, willing to make known
what we as people on this earth
needed to know of life and death,
of Him, Himself, and of our sin,
of how He could our pardon win:
The Word of truth for ever was,
was God, was with God, lived with us.
He chose our nature to take on,
to speak great truth to everyone.
He lived a life of truth and grace,
some turned away, would not embrace
this One who taught of freedom sure,
redemptive grace and truth secure.
The Word of truth for ever was,
was God, was with God, lived with us.
But those receiving Him became
adopted with new life and name,
God’s children loving heavenly Word
– that Word made flesh, touched, seen and heard.
The Word now man, his glory seen,
in grace now come to save, redeem.
The Word of truth for ever was,
was God, was with God, lived with us.
‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. …his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God …The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. … the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No-one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.’ John1:1,1,12,14,17,18
