She died in fifty-nine,
body and soul;
yet even so
I’ve fallen hard
for the scratches
and echos
that endure
from her short
hard time here.
She died in New York
where I’ve never been,
yet I smell the Downbeat;
the smoke burns my eyes
as Lady sings the blues.

A brilliant IP response socialeaf. Is that photo copyright-free? (it's beautiful)

Great poem. The line

Great poem. The line ‘scratches and echoes’ is stunning. To me it highlights flawed beauty and the magic of recorded sound.

I like how minimal this is,
I like how minimal this is, sort of like the beautiful photo. And how you say twice that she died, past tense yet everything else is in the present tense, showing how she is still alive, for you in her music
