An Old Age Thought
P K Routry
At this twilight hours of my life
the events tinged with pleasure and strife
fleet often in galore before my mind’s eyes
disturbing my lonely hours with melancholic sighs.
The pleasant incidents also bring pains and tears
as they appear as fairy tales having been stolen by merciless years
The dear people associated have vanished or are dead.
Their hazy memory worsens the pains to my heart and head.
People so close, so dear peep from the zig zag memory lane
their names appearing on tip of tongue, fail to recollect my ageing brain.
The sorrowful incidents have been soothed by the balm of time.
To remove the balm by disturbing remembrance appears to be a crime.
Hence on occurrence of such past thoughts I loudly pray His hymns
forcibly suppressing past remembrance and totally surrendering to Him.
